Retired Horse Services

 Morayiah

Fancier Farm provides loving care for retired horses. We provide special nutrition, such as soups, hot brans, medications and supplements for chronically injured or elderly horses.

The older horses enjoy socializing and some of them buddy up with younger horses, providing babysitting services. Vulnerable horses are protected but not isolated; we have a variety of pasture sizes, stall and paddocks and all are open with views of the farm activities. Our goat, chickens, lama, cats and dogs visit the animals so the horses are not bored or anxious.

Our kicked back atmosphere is ideal for the retired horse. Stalled horses are turned out to graze and exercise daily, and others are in pasture.

We have found some of our senior horses enjoy mixing with younger horses or socializing at will. Two of our retirees wander the farm at liberty and provide comfort to new horses, standing by these stalls and offering their companionship. Some of our older geldings go out as "uncle" horses with a group of male yearlings. The sometimes rambunctious yearlings learn manners and herd behavior and the older horses get some exercise playing with these youngsters.

When people retire a horse they worry that the horse might be neglected, relegated to a lesser stall and forgotten. Our seniors are integrated as much as possible so they are not bored or lonely, and we are located within one hour of UC Davis if there are hospital requirements. Our attending veterninarian is on call 24 hours.

Please revisit this page for our Senior Horse photos. We have retired race horses, jumpers, cutters, all breeds and disciplines. We will be showing the antics of our retired horses enjoying life at Fancier Farm.
