American Sport Ponies

Nifty doing hazards
Nifty Dressage

American Sport Ponies offer exciting adventures for young and old! Whether you like the slower articulation of a dressage test or the heart pounding explosion of combined driving events, you can enjoy either or both with your American Sport Pony.

Sport Pony Events are diversified and inclusive. For couples where one partner doesn't ride, the opportunity to be "Gator" (for Navigator) solves the problem. The "Gator" can dress up in cap and sports coat for the dressage events, and helmet and t-shirt for the thrills and spills of combined driving.

Your spot pony can drive your family around on family visits, allowing the whole family to pariticpate, young and old, whether they are equestrians or not.

Ponies have historically worked as multi-purpose horses and the pony tradition has no room for prima donnas. A pony's job includes jumping over fences, pulling a hay wagon or family to town, and teaching children riding lessons. The fun of dressing up for holidays, special events, fund raisers is another way to include your friends and family in your pony life.

Some people who get involved with driving ponies are riders who have back problems and have been advised to consider driving. Other people are charmed by the tradition - the cap and sport coat, the ladie's driving apparel, and an inclusive fun social experience. The Sport Pony crowd is light hearted and enthusiastic and newcomers are welcome. The American Sport Pony phenomenon is just getting started, shows are still small and it is an excellent time to get involved.
